Thomas Frauenhofer, D.O.
Interventional Pain Physician  ·  Founder

Dr. Thomas Frauenhofer founded North Florida Pain Specialists in Tallahassee, Florida, to build a physician-led interventional pain management practice grounded in a simple conviction: that patients with chronic, complex pain deserve access to the full scope of what modern pain medicine has to offer — not just the most common procedures, but the most effective ones.

Dr. Frauenhofer is double board-certified in Pain Medicine and Emergency Medicine, and is fellowship-trained in interventional pain management at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His clinical expertise spans the complete range of interventional and neuromodulation-based therapies, including spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, basivertebral nerve ablation, intrathecal drug delivery, the MILD procedure for lumbar spinal stenosis, balloon kyphoplasty, and bone tumor ablation for cancer-related spine pain. He evaluates and treats the full spectrum of chronic and complex pain — from lumbar and cervical radiculopathy, failed back and neck surgery syndrome, CRPS, and peripheral neuropathy to cancer pain, vertebral compression fractures, and refractory pelvic and visceral pain.

His training began at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. He then completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida Health in Jacksonville — an experience that deepened his ability to evaluate complex patients rapidly and comprehensively. He subsequently pursued advanced fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where his focus on neuromodulation and minimally invasive spine procedures was developed and refined.

Dr. Frauenhofer has a genuine and personal connection to Tallahassee. He completed the clinical years of his medical education here and made a deliberate choice to return after fellowship — not for the nearest opportunity, but for this community. He holds hospital privileges at HCA Florida Capital Hospital and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and serves as an active member of the Capital Medical Society.

At the foundation of this practice is a set of values that go beyond clinical excellence. Dr. Frauenhofer approaches medicine as a calling — one defined by service, compassion, and a commitment to the well-being of each patient as a whole person. That conviction shapes every interaction, from the first consultation to the last follow-up.
