Preparing for Your Procedure
At your consultation you will receive specific instructions for your procedure. Below are the most common things patients need to know in advance to ensure a safe, smooth experience.
In-Office Procedures
Most injections are performed right here in our office. These are same-day procedures — you walk in, have the procedure, and walk out. No overnight stay, no hospital check-in required. Oral sedation is available for in-office procedures for patients who would benefit from it.
Hospital or ASC Procedures
Certain surgical procedures are performed at a local hospital or ambulatory surgery center (ASC). You will be informed of the specific location before you leave your consultation. These are also same-day procedures. Sedation at a hospital or ASC is provided by anesthesia and may range from IV sedation to general anesthesia depending on the procedure.
In-Office with Oral Sedation
If you choose oral sedation for an in-office procedure, a driver is required. You will not be cleared to drive after receiving oral sedation. Certain in-office injections also require a driver — you will be informed of this at checkout.
Hospital & ASC Procedures
A driver is required for all hospital and ASC procedures without exception. Please arrange for a trusted friend, family member, or rideshare in advance. You will not be cleared to drive yourself home under any circumstances.
SCS & PNS Trial Patients
If you are undergoing a spinal cord stimulation or peripheral nerve stimulation trial, you will need to return on a specific date to have the trial lead removed. This date will be provided to you at checkout — please note it and plan accordingly.
NPO (Fasting) — Hospital & ASC Only
Fasting (NPO) after midnight is required for all hospital and ASC procedures. This does not apply to in-office injections. If you are unsure whether your procedure requires fasting, call our office before your procedure day.
Blood Thinners & GLP Medications
Hospital and ASC procedures require disclosure of all blood-thinning medications and GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic or Wegovy). Many of these will need to be held prior to your procedure. Your care team will give you specific instructions — do not stop any medication without guidance from our office.
Active infections and antibiotics: Please notify our office if you are currently taking antibiotics or being treated for an active infection before your procedure. An active infection may put you at increased risk, and your procedure may need to be rescheduled for your safety.
Pre-operative evaluation: Some patients scheduled for a hospital or ASC procedure may be asked to arrive on the day before for a pre-operative evaluation. You will be informed of this at checkout if it applies to you.
Medication list: Bring a complete list of all current medications on the day of your procedure — including vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter drugs. This is essential for your safety and helps confirm that any necessary holds were followed correctly.
- Your post-procedure instructions will be reviewed with you by our team before you are discharged — take them home and keep them handy.
